I know that winter isn't everyone's cup of tea. Personally I love it. I thought I';d share with you some of the things I truly love about winter.

• The holidays - YES! Christmas is my favourite holiday. It means spending extra time with family and the ones I love. I also enjoy buying presents for people and putting the Christmas tree up of course. The Christmas lights and baubles... Just everything about Christmas I love. Decorating for the holiday season is my all time favourite. I usually have a colour scheme and plan out carefully our Christmas meals and schedule. The kids always help, too! We also watch so many Christmas movies and listen to festive music! I adore watching the kids opening there presents on Christmas morning. Christmas is my favourite thing about winter. 

• The festivities - A bit similar to the first reason I like winter BUT this deserves a mention on it's own. The kids Christmas nativities and carol singing services are so, so lovely. I always look forward to this! Ellie has a Christmas carol service at the local church this Christmas and I am SO excited! Their is always such a lovely atmosphere, too! Ellie has been singing her heart out and practicing the carols.
• The fashion - The knitwear and big cosy sweaters and cardigans is the absolute best kind of fashion for me! Being winter and cold, it also means big fluffy socks and boots! I always feel so cosy with my big fluffy hood on my coat, a nice warm sweater underneath with jeans and boots! And not to mention cosy P.Js, hehe. And of course the Christmas themed jumpers and outfits. YAS! 

• The scenery - I personally think winter is a beautiful time of year. With all the frost on the ground and possibly even snow! I hope we get some snow this year. The way the light hits the ground on a sunny morning making everything sparkle! Everything always looks so sparkly and pretty. I must admit, I'm not a fan of ice - I usually end up slipping over. 
• The food - Warm home made food! Yum! The kids enjoy it too. I make home made food all year around but there's something about winter food that's comforting, don't you think? One of the kids favourites is the cheese and potato pie I make. We usually have it with sausages and beans. I also like to make stews and casseroles. You can not beat a hot, homemade beef stew on a frosty day. Not to mention the Christmas food... The kids would certainly say they love all the sweet goodies and warm deserts! We always bake some winter inspired goodies. Last year we made some snow flake cakes.

• Hot chocolate - We LOVE our hot chocolates. Especially after the school run. There's something really comforting about coming home to a hot chocolate drink, the kids always enjoy theres. I usually add on squirty cream and some kind of sprinkles or chocolate on the top! The kids like to drink there's with a straw. Mmm. Sometimes I'll pick up a hot chocolate whilst I'm out walking - It warms me up and keeps my hands warm, hehe. 

• The Cosy Evenings - You know when it's so cold outside and we're inside all nice and warm and tucked up under cosy blankets and wearing comfy, warm clothes and SLIPPERS? Perhaps evening light a candle or two... That feeling is the absolute best! We usually watch a movie or play board games. I might also read a fair bit during winter. We also enjoy some winter themed arts and crafts, too!

Phew! I am so glad it's half term. It's a very welcomed break in our house by the kids and myself! It's nice to have a break from the school routine, don't you think? It was also nice that today was a sunny day. It was quite chilly but such a pretty day, we couldn't resist a walk in the woodland 'round by where we live.
We packed a backpack with bottles of water, Harry's football boots (because he wanted to play football) and what not and off we went to the park!
We were also looking out for signs of spring a long the way as it's one of our tasks on our February bucket list.



We did spot quite a few of those. We spotted some blossom and the odd daffodil here and there, too!
We arrived at the park and it was pretty empty considering it was such a lovely day! We however, decided a walk in the woods and finding some trees to climb would be more fun than the wet slide!



 Around the woods and the park are little exercise activities to do. Ellie was impressed the bridge and the fact she could walk on it without holding on "Look!! I can do it with no hands, I couldn't do that last year" Bless her.
  The boys were eager to get into the woods and find some trees to climb! A huge part of my childhood was roaming these woods and climbing trees, it's nice to see my children doing the same.


Ellie also had a go at climbing trees and we talked about why and how some of the very old trees had huge holes in them. Some were struck by lightening, others have fallen and what not. Charlie is especially fascinated by old tree's and we had a good chat about tree's! I do love that my children love nature as much as I do.







Harry got to play football on the way home, with some of his friends that were over the park. Ellie also found one of her friends and I had a lovely chat with her mum, which was nice. All the kids played football and other ball games together for the rest of our afternoon! It was fun.
We had a fantastic afternoon!
By the time we'd got home we were all quite muddy but we had a wonderful time! We're really hoping the weather stays nice for half term, it'd be so nice to get outside more and enjoy the fresh air. We are super excited for spring which is just around the corner...

Every month I like to set some goals. Not just for me but the kids too and it's always nice to have something to aim for. Lots to look forward to this month. We have Pancake day (One of our favourite days of the year I must say!) coming up & Valentines day. As well as half term! We really miss being outside so hopefully the wind dies down and the rain slows down so we can venture out! Here's our list of things to do this month.

January has been a very stressful month. Lots has happened. I have had a lot of family things going, the main one being my nan. I've been spending a lot of time with her because I'm very worried about her. She's really not doing too good. She has brittle bones and I've also noticed she's repeating herself over and over, asking the same question and then (literally) a minute or so later as king the same thing again. I know that memory loss comes with old age and I also know it's normal to an extent but having been a carer for old people, I'm not sure it is JUST that. I have been to see the doctor with her and made appointments etc for her. We'll see how things go. I really am worried about her. I wish she would agree to having a carer because she needs it, even if she doesn't think she does. Bless her.

There's been other family things but I don't really want to go into it right now.

My new baby niece Holly was born last week. I'm yet to meet her and have baby newborn cuddles but I did have a lot of fun looking after her big sister (my niece) while her mummy was in labor! She's only 16 months old and I absolutely loved looking after her. We had fun! It doesn't seem that long ago that my children were that age. My youngest is now eight years old!! Time flies.

Charlie's asthma has flared up quite bad. The weekend before last he had a mild asthma attack. He hasn't had an asthma attack for a couple of years! His asthma is always worse during the winter months, when the air is cold and damp. He handled it well though and he's perfectly fine in himself but it's left him with a dreadful cough. I took him to the doctors and he's been giving another inhaler. Poor kiddo. He does handle it well and it's much easier now he's older (10 years old! Yup, I can't believe he's 10 either) as he can say when he needs his asthma pump and can do it himself. Bless him.

Harry's doing well... he's getting on really well at high school (touch wood). He's made so many new friends! He's also joined in with a couple of lunch time clubs (sports). Which is great.



Ellie started complaining of toothache this past weekend, I made her appointment to see the dentist yesterday. She had to have a baby tooth pulled out as the big one was pushing down on it and was causing her a fair bit of pain. The tooth was ready to come out, the dentist just helped it a long a bit. I can not believe how brave she was. She didn't cry or make a fuss and has been perfectly fine ever since! So relieved she isn't afraid of the dentist.

I'm doing ok. I have had zero time for blogging, there really has been a lot going on this month. I've been having some really bad headaches on and off and I fear that the fluid/pressure is building up around my brain again. Really hoping to avoid a lumbar puncture. I am contemplating starting vlogging, even if it's just a short weekly vlog. One of my goals for this year was to build my youtube channel.


We also had a tiny bit of snow, which didn't settle on the ground because the ground was wet! It was very pretty to watch though. I think the kids were hoping for enough snow to build a snowman and have a snowball fight.. Guess there's still time yet though! :)

So that's life lately.

This weekend, while the weather was nice and there was a break between rain downpours, we decided to take a little walk down to the river bank and feed the swans and geese. Harry had made plans with a friend so he didn't want to come with us. Charlie, Ellie and I had a great time though! We were only gone for about 45 minutes because it started clouding over again and sure enough, as soon as we stepped through the front door, it poured with rain. We spent the rest of the day playing board games and even Harry joined in when he returned home fifteen minutes after us.

Oh and we tested out the kids walkie talkies, too, which they got for Christmas. They're such good fun.

Mr swan was chasing us! Such a magnificent creature.

We tried to take photos while we were feeding the swans but they decided to chase us.. They could see the bag of food and apparently we wern't feeding them quick enough. Just as well I'd wet the bread before feeding it to them.
We eventually managed to convince the swans back in the water by throwing in the food.






 We also spotted this little wagtail. So very pretty and cute! Ellie and Charlie hadn't seen one up close before. They were fascinated. Awww.



We had a lovely aftternoon (or half an hour) and I am really starting to look forward to spring because this place will be just beautiful in spring and perhaps we can take a picnic along with us! Although, we'll probably be mobbed by swans, haha.
