So there's my bucket list for this summer. Hopefully I won't fail this time like last year, lol.

Anyone who knows me, knows I am a huge reptile lover. Especially lizards! It's a shame we don't have many native reptiles in our country. Do you know, I use to have pet Iguana? (He was four, almost five foot long! But that's a post for another day!) Anyhow.. onto todays post..
Our garden is full of slow worms (Anguis fragilis). One might ask what a slow worm is. Slow worms look like snakes but they are actually a legless lizard! You can identify a slow worm by looking at the eyelids. Slow worms (and lizards) have eyelids but snakes do not. Slow worms feel very smooth, the scales don't over lap!
We are forever spotting them in the garden (along with frogs, too!) and forever rescuing them from cats. Cats find slow worms fascinating because "wiggle" and they try to play with them with there paws. However, when a slow worm feels threatened by a predator it will automize aka drop it's tail/tail falls off. I have come across many that have 'dropped' there tail and I have also come across many that have had puncture wounds from the cats. I'm just going to state the obvious here but slow worms can't defend themselves against cats!! They always recover though, I've never found a dead or really badly injured slow worm! They seem to be quite 'hardy' creatures.

Don't fear! They're harmless. They are quite friendly and don't really mind being held for a few seconds not that get much choice when I'm rescuing them from a cats paws, better to be rescued than hurt.. or worse though, right?! Even if they tried to bite I doubt it'd hurt. Of course though, like any animal it's always good to be cautious and wash your hands after touching! I find it quite fascinating that our back garden is full of them. We have a spot at the end of the garden under the conifers with a small bit of old carpet, slow worms love old carpet to wiggle under! Or any object really, especially tin or black plastic, which absorbs heat. They love it when the ground is damp because they are carnivores, they eat slugs and other bugs. They like long grass, too. A male slow worm can grow up to around 50cm long. They have quite long life spams, too! I think around 20 0r so years in the wild and longer in captivity!

I was a little freaked out at first but once I realised what the "snake" was, it was all fine. We love having these around our garden. They are certainly different! Just wish the cats would leave the poor things alone. Charlie loves them and often goes on a "slow worm hunt" he loves just sitting watching them wiggle around, disappearing under the grass and then reappearing again! Ellie doesn't mind them either but Harry. my eldest? He runs a mile if he spots one, lol. Bless.

So lets see...
We'll start with Charlie. Last Sunday was Charlies 8th Birthday (I still can't over the fact that Charlie is now eight years old). He had a fab day. Filled with fun and presents! He came home from his dads in the afternoon and had a lovely roast dinner (his fave) followed by opening presents. His favourite present was his tablet. Second favourite was his pop up army tent. You can see the picture to the left, his face was a picture when he opened his tablet, he wasn't expecting it at all! LOL.
He enjoyed a lovely big chocolate cake with his borther sister and friends. Followed by Jelly and Ice cream. Sugar rush much?! But that's ok, it's what birthdays for, right?!
Ellie has been busy with the end of term activities. Last week she had her first school trip to the beach. She had a wonderful time and was full of excitment telling me all about it, hehe. She's excited to be going up to year one in September. I think she has her induction to year one tomorrow or next Friday, I can't quite remember which. With so much going on it's hard to remember! We went for a lovely walk last weekend and found some wild daisies. Big daisies. Ellie loves flowers. Hehe. Ellie's picture should be to the right of this paragraph.
Harry's really been enjoying the sunshine. He's been playing lots of football with his friends and we've been to the park a few times. Harry is a very sporty, outdoorsy kid. He loves being outside. He's very excited about the end of term and being able to spend more time at home with me and more time playing football! Hehe. I can't get over how tall he is getting! Honestly, he'll be over taking me before I know it. He doesn't like me taking his photo (to the left of this paragraph). So please forgive the poor quality, I had to zoom right in, lol.

Gosh, hasn't it been hot?! Not that I'm complaining mind. We've been really blessed with lovely weather, although today is over cast and quite chilly but that's ok. It's nice to have a cool day for a chance. I hope you've all had some sunshine where ever you're from!
So my reasons to be cheerful this week... Lets seee..
1) It's almost the end of term. I can not wait! Not to have to rush around, make sure school uniforms are clean and ironed, no worrying about time and will I get this and that done in time before the kids come out of school. It'll be lovely to lounge around and go at our own pace! And of course spend some quality time with the kids. I'm hoping to go visit family up north again but we shall see.
2) It was Charlies Birthday this past Sunday. He had an amazing time! You should've seen his face when he opened his present which was a tablet, he was not expecting that at all, lol! Infact I have a picture. (I've posted it on the right>>) He got some lovely presents and in the summer holidays we're going to go out somewhere for a day. Charlie chooses where we go as we didn't do a party this year. Charlie had a party last year so this year it's one of the others turn for a party. We did go for a walk so that charlie could use his new army back pack! We were "exploring" hehe. So glad he had a lovely birthday. I still can't believe he's EIGHT years old. Where does time go?!
3) I won a lovely facebook competition on the blossom hill page. To be honest, I'd forgot that I'd even entered! I won FOUR bottles of wine. Not that I drink that often so it'll last a while! It'll be nice to have a glass of wine with a BBQ one evening though.
4) Hopefully this weekend, I'll be able to meet up with an old friend and visit my family! They don't live that far away (an hour in the bus which takes a detour route lol), there's a beautiful river and a duck pond with a park over the road, so Ellie will be able to have fun, too! Yay!
And of course, tomorrow is Friday!
