Shadows of the workhouse by Jennifer Worth

I really, really enjoyed this book even though it was heartbreaking in places. A truly amazing memoir of a midwife in the 1950's.
She shares some of her experiences and tells us what life was like in the workhouse and after the workhouse, we learn a lot about the people who worked in the workhouse.  It truly was an eye opener and I learned a lot from this book. I loved the story of her befriending an old solider who suffered with leg ulcers. I loved hearing about life and working with the nuns. I don't want to say too much because I don't want to spoil it for anyone who is reading/wants to read this story. It is honestly one of the best books I have read for a long time, I couldn't put it down! Along with Jennifer worths other stories "Call the Midwife, "in the midst of life, Farewell to the East End" I can not wait to read the next book "Fare well to the East end".

I give this book 5 stars and would recommend that everyone reads this memoir.

Farewell to the east end by Jennifer Worth.

Another really fascinating read by Jennifer Worth. This is the final book in the'call the midwife' trilogy. Honestly really enjoyed every single one of her books. This book is full of short stories of her memories and experiences of being a nurse/midwife in the 1950's in the East end. Some of the stories are truly horrifying yet so beautifully written. We learn about TB and the devastating effects, illegal abortions and much, much more. All sounds very depressing but honestly it is SO informative. Times have truly changed! I love hearing the stories of the nuns, there are some rather funny moments in the book, too. I really enjoyed this book.
I gave this book 4 stars & it is certainly a must read!

Daddys Little Secret by Tina Davis.

I brought this book from Tescos the other day. They had the 3 for £5 offer on. I brought my mum two for her birthday but I couldn't find a third so I got this as the print wasn't too small and it's not a long book.
Absolutely heartbreaking story about a young girl who is abused by her step father, (the subject was hard to read) she becomes pregnant by him aged just 14. He controls everything she does... She's not allowed friends, to go out, money etc. She just gets so use to living the way she does, I guess she thinks it's just normal. She lives with him for years. They move around a lot and eventually she becomes known as his partner. Her life is hell! She is so lonely and isolated, she has no family around her. She has more children with him, not with her consent I might add! This book is honestly so, so heart breaking, I cried while reading this book. Very, very brave young lady talking about an absolute horrific childhood and life, kind of inspiring. What she went thru should never have happened!
This book took me around 5-6 hours (on and off!) in total to read! I couldn't put it down.
I give this book five stars.

When Summer Ends , by Isabelle Rae

'Chloe Henderson has never been one to break the rules or push the boundaries… but during her summer break, she and her friends use fake IDs to sneak into a club. It’s there that she meets handsome and alluring bartender, Will Morris. The pair hit it off immediately, growing closer with every passing day. But as with every summer, it has to end sometime.

Chloe’s senior year approaches and there’s a shock in store when she returns to do her final year at school. Will is there too, but he’s not one of her fellow students…

A tale of forbidden love, broken hearts, friendship, and rivalry.'
(Book description from Amazon.

I don't know why but it kind of reminded me of Twilight (without the vampires and wear wolves) and fifty shades (without the erotic scenes). It might just be me that thinks that though so please don't let that put you off! It was a little slow in places but it soon picked up again. It was a very sweet story. Read this book within a few days. I'd give this 3.5 stars.

My heart for yours by Jolene Perry & Stephanie Campbell

I'll try not to give too much away (and bare with me, I am SO tired! But need to get this review done now because I don't want to forget!)
Hmmm. This book was a littel depressing for me, I kept reading it though thinking it'd get going but I don't think it actually did. Although it was very sad it did have a good story. I like the way it was written. I loved the flashbacks from both sides. I felt incredibly sorry for Tobin, who had lost his brother and incredibly sad for Delia who lost a dear friend and seemed very confused to begin with. It has a nice ending. I am glad I read it and it didn't take me very long to be honest - I just wanted to finish it :-/ Not really my kind of book? I'm not really sure...
I'd give this book 2.5 maybe 3 stars because I did like the story and the way it was written.
