6 Things I've learned since working out.

00:00

My weight has really been getting me down lately. I am a size 14 clothes and most of my clothes are size 10-12. I really need to fit back into those. It's not only that though, I've noticed how unfit I am. Just walking up the stairs I was becoming out of breath, that can't be a good sign so I decided it was time to start working out again. I am currently on day 4 of Jillian Michael's 30 day shred. I've done it before so I knew what to expect but it doesn't make it any easier! Here are five things I learned about myself since I've started working out and eating healthier, again.

Six things I've learned since working out

  1. It doesn't matter how slow you go, just do not stop. - I can't work out everyday because I have a brain condition (The fluid builds up around my brain and causes headaches/visual problems and so on. The medication I have to slows down my metabolism, therefore I gain weight) but when I feel like I CAN workout, I try not to push myself too hard. As long as I stay eating healthy and try to aim for 10k steps a day, workout three times a week and think positive, I CAN do this and I WILL be skinny for next summer! Slow wins the race, right?
  2. Green Tea is actually pretty good. Especially the berry flavoured green tea's. I actually find myself craving it now! Although it makes me feel sick and dizzy if I drink it on an empty stomach.. I've also been drinking a lot more water! Always a plus. No more fizzy drinks!
  3. Eating healthy is hard. Although I am into the swing of things now, it does take some getting use to, it is not easy. I've been eating healthier for almost three weeks now and I don't even think about eating junk. It's ok to have a treat now and again but in moderation and only once a week!
  4. Don't become obsessed with the scales - This is easier said than done let me tell you! I weigh myself once a week but it's so hard not to weigh myself every other day and become obsessed with those scales. (I'm speaking from experience now! I've learned by my mistakes). I'm going to weigh myself once a week for the first month and then I'll weigh myself every two weeks after that. If I don't see a loss, I'll feel so disheartened. However, this week I have lost 2.2lbs and I'm very, very happy with that!
  5. Rewards - When I reach my first goal of loosing that first 5lb I am going to reward myself. I may reward myself with a nice face mask/pamper evening or something similar.
  6. Stay active - Anything is better than nothing! I just need to MOVE more and eat less. Even just doing the housework burns a good amount of calories and then add in a half hour walk. It all adds up.  I find step counters help me - There are plenty of apps. I am planning on investing in a Fitbug after Christmas, my old one sadly broke.

  1. It sounds like you're doing brilliantly, well done! My advice when it comes to exercise is - you don't have to feel like doing it, you just have to do it. So often I don't feel like exercising beforehand, but then when I've done it I am always glad afterwards. Also try out lots of different types of exercise until you find something you enjoy enough to keep doing. This makes it so much easier.

  3. I try to stay away from the scales. I prefer to judge my progress on whether my clothes fit and how I feel :) #thelist

  4. I feel the same as you and have been on a mission to loose weight and get more active over the last three months. It's slow going, but I've lost half a stone and competed my first 5k. I run two to three times a week too. I think it helps that I like cooking, but staying on track is hard and I do allow myself the odd takeaway. If I get hungry I tend to have a few squares of dark chocolate too! I love the lean in 15 cook books by Joe, they're fab for quick and easy recipes. It sounds like you're doing a great job. Keep it up! Thanks for linking up to That Friday Linky #ThatFridayLinky

  6. Keep it up, you are 100% right that the scales aren't important. As long as you feel good about yourself that is the main thing. Try looking at my blog on BBG if you get the time, something which may be of an interest.

  10. I found making the switch to healthy food surprisingly easy. The only thing I struggle with is cutting out/lowering my intake of cheese and pizza, but other than that the transition from fast-food or candy on a daily basis to eating only veggies, home-made food and healthy raw cakes was pretty smooth.

  13. I'm exactly the same! Clothes wise too, I really need new jeans (mine have literally fallen apart and I have to wear leggings underneath to keep my modesty haha) but I refuse to buy new ones in a size 14 when I have loads of size 10's sat in the cupboard. However I'm far too lazy lately! #ThatFridayLinky

  14. Definitely agree with ditching the scales. I want to get fit next year but it's for my health not weight ... that's the focus :) good luck with it! x #sharewithme

  16. Sounds like you are doing great. I share many of your frustrations. After 4 children I just can't seem to lose weight. I exercise daily and I eat a low fat, high protein diet, I don't eat any wheat and I drink about 4 cups of green tea a day, and yet I just can't shift it :( Thanks for linking to #sharewithme

  17. It's really hard to stay motivated isn't it but it sounds like you're doing really well! One day at a time. I would say try to look at your normal day and see if there's ways you could be more active. So, rather than just specifically doing exercise as a formal class etc try to add in little bits here and there. Standing for three hours a day burns the same number of calories as running 10 marathons in a year. I stick my laptop on a box on the kitchen worktop and do lots of work standing up now. Also just trying to walk more and using stairs instead of lifts all helps to make your day harder. Keeping your diet on track is critical for weight loss but even if you aren't seeing weight loss, if you're being more active it will make you healthier regardless of what the scales tell you. You can do it! #FitnessTuesday
