5 Places I'd like to visit in the U.K

Five places I want to visit in the UK

I don't often travel but that doesn't mean that I don't want to travel - I really do. It isn't always possible due to many reasons but I thought if I put together a list of places I'd like to visit and take the kids, within the UK, it might give me some incentive. I know it doesn't have to cost a fortune and it certainly doesn't have to be chaotic. Here are some of the places I'd like to visit and for now, dream about.

London

I'd love to visit London. We briefly went through London via coach when on our way to Liverpool a couple of years ago. We managed a quick picnic in Victoria Park, while we were waiting for our next coach. It was hectic though and we had to rush! Plus we had suitcases and rucksacks with us which made it difficult in central London. It was BUSY! I would however, like to go sight seeing -Buckingham Palace, Big Ben etc and go on a boat on the River Thames. I know the kids would also enjoy this. A picnic in Hyde park would be great, too! I think we would need more than one day though.

Liverpool and the mersey

I'd really like to visit Liverpool again. I've beento Liverpool before (visiting family - no accommodation cost either) but there's SO much to see and do and none of it is expensive. Visiting the Liverpool docks and riding the ferry over the Mersey was great fun (the kids had a BLAST!) last time. We also visited Speke Hall. I love old Tudor houses and this one was just breath taking. We also looked around the world museum but I'd quite like to visit the Martime Museum, the kids would enjoy this too! It features objects from the Titanic. Which I find fascinating, as do the kids. Liverpool is a beautiful place with a lot of history!
Speke Hall

Cornwall is a beautiful part of the U.K, with lovely beaches and lots to see and do! I'd just like to spend time on the beach to be honest. I went on a holiday there with my dad, brother and sister when I was thirteen, it was really great! I remember our caravan was just a stones throw away from the beach, it was amazing! We spent a lot of our time at the beach exploring. Paddling in the ocean and I remember finding this HUGE crab washed up on the shore. I'd love to go back with my own children and go to lands end.

Great Yarmouth is another place I'd love to visit and honestly, it isn't that far away from where I live, maybe two hours on the train. The beautiful seaside with arcades and a beach with rides and lots to do! They use to do pony/donkey rides on the beach, I remember this from when I was a child, I was about 9 years old when I went with my mum. I loved it! The kids would love this! It's very do-able because it's so close and I'm sure we could pick up a cheap deal somewhere.

The Shetland Islands - Up in Scotland. An absolute beautiful place! Lots of beautiful, pretty views and things to see and learn. I'd love to have a picnic on the cliffs over looking the ocean. I've seen many, many blog posts and photos on the Shetland Islands which has inspired me to add this to my 'Places to visit'.

... There are plenty of other places on my list but for now, these are my top five. I really would love to fulfill these dreams one day! I think it would do the kids good to travel and get to know our country.

What places within in the U.K would you like to visit? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Hi Sarah, I wouldn't mind spending some time exploring London, especially around Christmas time, as the only time I've been there is to get on a plane. But right now I'd like to go back to Devon, I grew up there and haven't been back for around six years now. I'd love to go up to Dartmoor and visit the places we used to when I was small, with my family now.

Cornwall is another place I've not visited for a long time and would love to go back to.

    xx

  25. Definitely try less-touristy things on your trip to London also, especially he amazing open spaces and parks, Primrose Hill, Parliament Hill, Hampstead Heath, Kenwood House and Alexandra Palace to name a few! All free and absolutely beautiful views across London. Hmm maybe I should write a post about this :-P

  29. I love visiting places in the UK for little trips. Although I find the crowds, etc stressful over long periods, I do like London - there is so much to visit & do there. When my kids are a bit older, I want to take them to do the museums (&, er, Harry Potter World, which is more for me if I'm honest). I've never been to Liverpool but have always heard nice things about it. As my dad's family are from Norfolk, I have been to Great Yarmouth many times in my childhood - it always had a big wavy slide I loved! I love many places in Norfolk/Suffolk, in fact - The Broads are lovely & Norwich (where I went to uni) is so nice. & in the same part of the country, I LOVE Cambridge - one of my favourite places. Bath and York are also favourites for me. I agree that Cornwall is lovely (but annoying to get to!). I've never been to the Shetland Islands.
